Do you often get frustrated with the way your makeup ends up looking? You want to make it look amazing but you’re not sure how to apply it like a pro. There are tons of video tutorials you can access, but you feel you also need the right kinds of makeup brushes to get that polished look you’re after.
With the right makeup brushes you can start looking fab without having to go to a salon every single day. But with so many of them to choose from, which ones do you buy?
Choose a high quality brush that will last for many years
It’s easy to tell if your makeup brushes are high quality or low quality.
High quality brushes creates a more natural looking finish because they make blending different shades and colours easier. And a good quality brush will last for years so it makes for a good investment.
Low quality makeup brushes are haphazardly made so the bristles are ragged, making your application uneven. You will also notice that the bristles fall out easily and can be tough and irritating for your skin. And most of the time, these brushes won’t hold their shape.
Use the right kind of material for the type of makeup you’re using
There are basically two types of materials used to make the bristles of makeup brushes.
Natural bristles are the preferred type for applying powder makeup because they drag on the skin and pick up pigments and oils. This makes it easier to blend for a more even and smooth result. Good quality natural bristles feel soft and smooth on your skin.
Natural bristles are made from various types of animal hair: squirrel, goat, sable or horse hair. A quick note here for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to allergies – make sure to watch out for any signs of allergic reaction upon trying a new brush.
Synthetic bristles are mostly used for applying liquid foundation. This is because this type won’t soak up liquid makeup because they are non-porous.
High cost does not always translate to good quality
Instead of basing your purchase on the price tag, it is better to inspect your makeup brush of choice before making the purchase. Pay close attention to soft bristles that don’t have ragged edges, and check that the handle holds the bristles in place and does not wobble.
