What do I eat on the Optifast Diet?

You can choose one Optifast product as a "meal" on the optifast vcld eating plan. The number of Optifast "meals" you have on the plan depends on what stage or phase of weight loss you are at.

Optifast Recipes.

While the products are fairly self explanatory there are some great recipes available to spice up your shakes, soups and desserts.

  • Add cinnamon to your coffee shake for a christmas kick
  • Add nutmeg and ginger to your vanilla shake for a chai flavour
  • Throw your chocolate mousse into the freezer to make ice cream.
  • Add part of your vege allowance to the chicken soup for a hearty meal
  • Blend some of your favourite fruit into the shake recipes

What are the four phases of the Optifast Program?

The Optifast diet works by reducing your calorie rate below 800 calories a day - this means your body has to draw on your own fat stores instead of getting calories from food. There are four phases in the Optifast program - your health professional can advice you which one is best for your body. When you first start you replace all meals with Optifast products so that calorie intake can be clearly monitored, as you start to lose weight you then re-introduce normal meals.

  • Phase One: Intensive Phase: Replace all of your meals with Optifast products. Eat with two cups of low starch green vegetables and two litres of water a day.
  • Phase Two: Transition Phase: Introduce one low calorie meal back into your diet (between 300-350 Calories) eat in conjunction with two cups of low starch vegetables, two serves of fruit, one serve of dairy and two litres of water per day. (Fruit and dairy servings should contain 50-70 calories and 10-15g of carbohydrate.)
  • Phase Three: Maintenance Phase: During this phase you have just one meal using Optifast products and the rests are normal healthy low calorie options. You have it with two cups of low starch vegies, two serves of fruit, one serve of dairy, and two litres of water a day.
  • Phase Four: Stabilisation Phase: Once you have lost the desired amount of weight you should be at a stage where you no longer require Optifast and your are eating healthy meals that are low in calories. If you wish to continue losing weight it is vital to restrict calories under 1500 per day. There is also an online optifast community where you can measure your weightloss success, get help and advice and watch videos.

Optifast Cost.

Optifast may seem expensive when you look at it on the shelf, but when you consider the fact that each serving is a complete low calorie meal replacement you can soon start to see how you would save money by being on this very low calorie diet. Think about how much it costs you to put together breakfast, lunch or dinner. Now you have your meal ready to go where ever you are, at the gym, at work, or on the go.
